NHL finalizes format, if Rangers beat Carolina a date with Boston likely

We now know that the playoffs will indeed reseed once the qualifiers are over. Initially the belief was that the NHL would go with a bracket format to make forecasting matchups easier but that was not in interest of fairness. We also learned that after the best of 5 qualifiers, the rest of the playoffs will be a best of 7.

The @NHL has announced more details of the playoff format for the Return to Play Plan following approval by the League’s Board of Governors and the @NHLPA.

Rangers tough road

Should the Rangers get by the Hurricanes, and the Canadiens lose to Pittsburg, they will be the lowest seed going into the 1st round. Should Boston claim the top spot in the “seeding” round as expected, that would set the worst possible matchup for NY. Of course, it could also be Tampa which isn’t that much better. The Blueshirts were just 1-3-1 against Boston and Tampa with no wins against the Big Bad Bruins.

NHL is not ready for phase 2 yet but it will soon. Told some teams don’t have their infectious disease consultant yet so that’s one of the reasons why practice facilities are not open.
