Rangers interviewed Kevin Dineen for Pack coaching vacancy

Chris Drury (NHL.com)

According to a local reporter in Hartford, the Rangers spoke with former NHL head coach, Kevin Dineen about the open position with the Wolf Pack.

The report is interesting on two fronts:

  1. The Rangers are obviously interested in coaches with NHL experience. Dineen coached the Florida Panthers from 2011 to 2014 with a record of 56 wins, 62 losses, and 28 OT losses. It should also be noted that in his first season behind the bench the Panthers won the division.
  2. While they spoke with him, they did not offer him the position and he moved on. This is consistent with our earlier reporting this week that the process continues.
