Could Andrew Shaw be the sandpaper the Rangers desperately need?

Much will be made of last night’s trip by Glen Sather up north to take in the Canadiens vs. Senators game. One name that hasn’t been mentioned much but does make sense for the New York Rangers is Andrew Shaw.

Currently the Rangers lack Centers and they lack grit. Many will dismiss grit as an asset, but it is truly intangible. Andrew Shaw is the definition of grit. Think Brandon Prust with a little more skill. His current cap hit is $3.9m and the 26 year old is signed through 2022. If Andrew Shaw is a reason why Glen Sather & Co. are in Montreal, or if he’s a piece of a much larger move, could that be the sandpaper that the Rangers are missing.

Of course, it’s in my opinion that the Rangers will either fire Vigneault OR make a trade. There’s no reason to do both. A trade says that the personnel isn’t enough for the coach, a firing says that the coach isn’t enough for the personnel. There’s been a lot of rumors flying around, but Andrew Shaw is definitely an interesting thought.
