Chris Kreider to the Avalanche trade scenarios

To trade or not to trade to steal and play on words from William Shakespeare. That really is the albatross circling this NHL Trade Deadline. Trading Chris Kreider will start a chain reaction around the league with other teams scrambling to compete. We all know the Rangers are going to score big if they move him, and it is believed Colorado is still the top dog to land him. So what could some of the trade scenarios look like?

Straight Up Scenarios

Last night Darren Dreger said there was a trade already on the table including a 1st round pick and a prospect or a 1st and an NHL player. The majority assume that Colorado is ready to part with their 1st round pick, but who is the player? Tyson Jost is a nice promising young center at 21 years old, but that won’t be enough. Martin Kaut is a nice prospect who is just getting a tase in the NHL but is he enough? This one will need work but here is two possible straight up scenarios.

To Colorado: Chris Kreider (50% salary retained)

To New York 1: 1st round pick, Tyson Jost, a mid-prospect, and a conditional 2nd round pick.

or

To New York 2: 1st round pick, Martin Kaut, a mid prospect, and a 2nd round pick.

Blockbuster Scenario

Kreider and Georgiev (Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY)

So what would a blockbuster with the Avs look like? Remember, just recently Joe Sakic said he feels no pressure, is willing to trade his first round pick, and is looking to make hockey deals, not short term rental fixes.

To Colorado: Chris Kreider (50% salary retained), Alexandar Georgiev, Greg McKegg and a 3rd round pick.

To New York: 1st round pick, Tyson Jost, Martin Kaut, a mid-prospect, and a conditional 2nd round pick.

Joe Sakic is dealing with a number of injuries right now to key players. His forward corp is depleted with Mikko Rantanen, Nazem Kadri, and Matt Calvert all hurt. Plus he lost Philipp Grubauer as well in goal. The Rangers can help solve a lot of his problems if Sakic is willing to give up the key young pieces and that 1st round pick to make this blockbuster. If there was a blockbuster to be made with Colorado this would be it.
