Coronavirus cancels another hockey league, CHL ends season
The CHL has officially announced the end of their season and the Memorial Cup will not be awarded. According to the CHL press release, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the CHL and their three other regional leagues (WHL, OHL, QMJHL) have moved from a pause to a full out cancel.
The NHL also did a Q&A to answer questions about the pause and hopeful return to play. Here are some key takeaways:
- No mandatory Coronavirus testing for players unless they have symptoms
- The format of scenarios will depend on what’s going on with the virus and government/CDC recommendations. That will dictate what they can do.
- Even if playoffs begin in July/August they don’t see a shortened 2020-2021 regular season
