Did the Rangers tweet just end speculation surrounding trading the first pick?

Earlier today the New York Rangers posted a tweet that read, “Our house is looking good.” A closer look shows an advertisement for the NHL Draft which is set to take place on October 9th.

With the #1 pick in the draft…

An up close look at the photos shows the sigh reads:

“With the #1 pick in the draft the Rangers select…” that is followed by, “Find out on October 9th and 10th”.

Maybe just maybe, this will put an end to the speculation that they might trade the pick.

Top 3 trade rumors surrounding trading the pick

KINGS: In a recent article in The Athletic, the Kings would package the #2 overall pick and several prospects like Alex Turcotte and Gabe Vilardi to the Rangers for the first overall selection.

CANADIENS: According to the Montreal rumor mill, the Habs would empty their prospect vault for Alexis Lafreniere. Montreal would send their first overall selection, and players like Max Domi, Nick Suzuki, and Cole Caufield for the #1 pick.

SENATORS: “Maybe Ottawa will offer the third-overall pick and Brady Tkachuk to move up to No. 1,” Larry Brooks wrote in a recent column. That took the rumor mill by storm and even led to another where the Senators would trade picks 3 and 5 overall to NY for Alexis Lafreniere.

According to the Ottawa Citizen, Melnyk said in an email, “The idea of trading our 3rd and 5th picks for the No. 1 pick is nonsensical.” Truly that is a steep price to pay for Alexis Lafreniere but that’s what it would take just to start the conversation with Jeff Gorton.
