UPDATED: Have the New York Rangers called up Tarmo Reunanen?

While the New York Rangers were entertaining their fans at the World’s Most Famous Arena, a transaction came across my smart phone. Prospect defender, Tarmo Reunanen was moved to the Taxi Squad.

Update 10:15AM: It appears the move was a paper transaction. Per the AHL.com’s transaction page the Wolf Pack deleted and added back Tarmo Reunanen and Tim Gettinger yesterday.

As of this morning, this is nothing more than a paper transaction. An official call up has not happened. The Wolf Pack are scheduled to play today, so we may see him moved back to the minors.

Nonetheless, it is interesting and quite possibly the prelude to an official call up. If so, I wouldn’t expect him to play Sunday after a big win and not a single practice with the team.

The Rangers 22 year-old left handed defenseman from Finland, didn’t have a great camp. At the same time it was an abbreviated one with not even a single exhibition game.

Tarmo Reunanen however has picked up where he left off in Liiga. He’s using his size and hockey sense to lead the Wolf Pack blue line. Thus far in four games for Hartford he has 2 goals and 4 points without a single penalty.

He would slot in nicely on a pairing with Brendan Smith or Anthony Bitetto. This would push Jack Johnson back to the 7th defense spot for the time being. With Trouba out at least another four weeks, it’s a move worth making.
