Henrik Lundqvist situation has both Tony DeAngelo and Ryan Strome on trade list

Every trade deadline and free agent season, TSN Tradecentre is a favorite go to resource. Led by one of the league’s top insiders, Frank Seravalli we now can add two Rangers on the Trade Bait list that were not there before.

Tony DeAngelo and Ryan Strome now Trade Bait

Here’s the excerpt from TSN:

New York Rangers: Henrik Lundqvist is likely heading for a buyout, which makes for $12 million total in dead space, counting Kevin Shattenkirk’s buyout. That reduces GM Jeff Gorton’s spending power to nearly $68 million, which is why big-ticket RFAs Tony DeAngelo and Ryan Strome are Trade Bait.

As to where they rank on the board, Seravalli has Deangelo at 15 and Strome right after at 16.

Resolving the Lundqvist situation

Henrik’s $8.5 million cap hit impacts everything the Rangers offseason more than any other issue. The buyout window opens tomorrow but I would not expect the Blueshirts to rush to do it.

I heard in the rumor mill the Rangers have been trying to gauge interest in Lundqvist. It appears that there is a least one team willing to trade for him. Now whether that’s a deal where they retain 50% of his cap hit, or the creative trade to Ottawa to let him be bought out there, remains to be seen.
