Igor Shesterkin named starter against Capitals, K’Andre Miller game-time decision
The New York Rangers are coming off a thrilling win against the Philadelphia Flyers. It was a 3-2 shootout victory led by Artemi Panarin.
Alexandar Georgiev was the winning goaltender, but as expected Igor Shesterkin will get the nod tomorrow afternoon against the Capitals.
Rangers vs Capitals: Igor Shesterkin to start
The last time Igor Shesterkin faced the Capitals he be put on a solid performance. “I think this might have been my best game of the season so far,” he said after beating Washington.
The 25 year-old backstop was on the ball that night and it took a fluky goal by Carl Hagelin to break the shutout. An Alex Ovechkin snipe was the other goal, but Shesterkin ultimately won the battle and the Rangers prevailed 4-2.
Per NYR PR: Igor Shesterkin has allowed two goals or fewer in five of his last six appearances, posting a 2.02 GAA and a .933 SV% over the span, and he has posted a .930 SV% or better in four of his last five appearances.
K’Andre Miller availability unknown
The Blueshirts played their second game without 21 year-old rookie K’Andre Miller. He has an upper-body injury and according to the head coach, his availability won’t be known until tomorrow.
Last night, the entire team from the first line to the bottom defensive pairing came up big. They gave up only 22 shots to the Flyers in a contest that included an OT period.
As I reported a couple of days ago, the Rangers do not have any immediate plans for a call up.
