Jonas Brodin a Rangers trade target and more NHL rumors at The Daily Goal Horn

Recently, I put together a post looking at some potential free agents or trade targets on left defense for the Rangers. Names like Torey Krug and Marco Scandella were on it. Now here’s a new name to add to that list.

NYR trade target: Jonas Brodin

Minnesota Wild defenseman, Jonas Brodin is an interesting trade target for the Blueshirts. The 27 year-old left defenseman would make an ideal partner for Jacob Trouba. His current cap hit is $4.166 million and he will be a UFA next summer, meaning Minnesota could be fielding offers for him at the draft.

The Rangers hold a second first round pick at 22 and could use that in a package for Brodin. That will not be enough to get him as the Wild are looking for young legs upfront, as aging stars like Zach Parise and Eric Staal make their way out.

So would you also part with a player like Filip Chytil in a deal to land a top pair left defender? What about Pavel Buchnevich? This is the dilemma Jeff Gorton faces in any deal.

NHL rumors have Taylor Hall in Montreal

The prize of free agent frenzy, especially once Alex Pietrangelo re-ups with the Blues, is Taylor Hall. Recently, the Coyotes made a “hail mary” pitch to keep him and it doesn’t sound like they persuaded Hall from testing the market.

Now the NHL rumor mill has the Montreal Canadiens in the market to beef up their flanks with Taylor Hall. I spoke with Lyle Richardson on a recent podcast regarding this topic and he reiterated the same belief that Darren Dreger has on the matter.
