Latest NHL timeline for training camps indicate August start for playoffs
July 10th is the rumored date for the NHL to open training camps for the 24 teams that will return to play. At this time, it is expected that camp will last 3 weeks and teams will also play 2 exhibition games prior to play beginning. This puts the start of the play-in rounds to August, and will likely force at least the first round to a best of five in order to complete the tournament before October.
Last night, Gary Bettman appeared on Bret Baier’s Fox News show and explained that the Hub Cities have yet to be decided. According to the NHL’s Commissioner it will boil down to the City with the least of COVID-19 cases combined with a large availability of testing that doesn’t takeaway from the community. Bettman did highlight that unless the Canadian government changes its mandatory 14 day quarantine they can’t be considered.
