Mika Zibanejad rejoins New York Rangers for training camp, will not play in scrimmage tonight

That sound you hear outside your window was the collective sigh of relief felt by all Rangers fans. More likely than not, you let one out too.

Yesterday we learned that Mika Zibanejad skated before practice and today he was on the ice with the first group. He took his spot between Chris Kreider and Pavel Buchnevich which is the team’s #1 line heading into the season.

The Rangers have moved their scrimmage for later this evening. What has been determined is that Mika will not take part in it tonight (per Dan Rosen).

Regardless, the mere fact that he’s back at practice is great news and likely had to do with quarantine protocols rather than injury. That is not confirmed and current policy does not allow the Rangers to make COVID related statements during camp. That falls on the NHL until the season starts.
