Agent: Door not closed on a Martin St. Louis return with the Rangers
Richard Labbe of La Presse spoke with Martin St. Louis‘ agent Lewis Gross who believes a deal can still be reached. Although there have been rumors that the Rangers were through with the soon to be 40 year old, I’ve been firm that it was far from true.
On June 1st, I wrote that if MSL was willing to take a 1 year deal at around $1M – $2M that the Rangers should consider it. In addition to that I noted that his value goes beyond the ice.

A future in Hartford would put Marty even closer to his family (Actually, it takes 10 minutes longer to drive to Hartford from Greenwich, but NYC traffic can change that easy). Something he probably thought of when he initially demanded to be traded to the Rangers, and the Rangers only. Is coaching in Marty’s future? Or a role in upper management? All these could be future roles for one of hockey’s greats.[/su_quote]
Now, his agent states that negotiations could reconvene soon. As per the La Presse article he said:
[su_quote cite=”La Presse (Translation via Google)” url=”https://www.lapresse.ca/sports/hockey/201506/16/01-4878426-ou-jouera-martin-st-louis.php”]”I expect that there will be further discussions, said Mr. Gross in a telephone interview with The Gazette. It is still too early to predict what will happen, we will know more in the coming days. We will have to reach a decision, as the Rangers will have to do. “[/su_quote]
Gross also addressed rumors of the possibility MSL finishing his career with Montreal. “We have not even begun to develop a list of potential teams that might be of interest,” he stated. “We are not there yet.”
So before you think the door is closed on Martin St. Louis and the Rangers, think again. Also, don’t forget that Alain Vigneault in a recent interview didn’t close the door either. “We want to know his intentions,” AV said. “But we want to give him time to properly evaluate the decision. Then we will see.”
The organization gave up a lot to acquire MSL and if he is willing to go one more year at a price break, why wouldn’t you want his 20 goals and leadership on your roster? Plus as I believe, this relationship could go well beyond his playing days on the ice.
