Rangers’ Artemi Panarin gets 3 assists at NHL All-Star Game
Artemi Panarin led the New York Rangers trio of All-Stars representing the Metropolitan Division at the 2023 NHL All-Star Game with three assists. Unfortunately, they were eliminated by the Atlantic Division by a 10-6 score.
Panarin set up all three of Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau’s goals. Meanwhile, Adam Fox recorded a helper on Alex Ovechkin’s tally and Igor Shesterkin stopped 5 of 9 shots.
“It’s cool for me to here with those two,” Fox said afterwards. “All our first years together was with the Rangers and this is our first All-Star game as a group.”
Earlier in the day, the Central Division knocked off the Pacific Division by a 6-4 final.

Igor Shesterkin had a bit of a rough go in the opening half only making five saves, but it’s not like there was any semblance of defense being played here by the Metro.
The game was actually 4-3 after Shesterkin gave way to close friend Ilya Sorokin of the New York Islanders for the second half. To be fair, Sorokin was really battling out there although he couldn’t hold up to the onslaught. Matthew Tkachuk of the host Florida Panthers finished the game with five points, including a hat trick. He played a line with his brother Brady, who notched a goal and three assists in the match.
Panarin recorded his first assist 5:20 in and then his second 20 seconds later, both on Gaudreau scores beating Linus Ullmark. His final helper came early in the second half.
Despite the loss, two of the game’s elder statesmen and longtime rivals stole the show.
Pittsburgh Penguins’ captan Sidney Crosby notched two goals and an assist, while Washington Capitals’ captain Alexander Ovechkin picked up one goal and two assists. They were partnered with the Rangers’ Adam Fox, who netted just one assist.
“It’s cool to play with Sid and Ovi,” Fox said. “To see them doing stuff out there together, it’s really cool for a younger guy like me to be around that stuff.”
Things imploded for the Metro after Crosby and Ovechkin executed the most passes between two players for a goal in history to make it 6-4.
After that tally, the Atlantic went off scoring six straight to advance to the final for the $1 million prize pool.
Matthew Tkachuk was eventually named the MVP of the All-Star Game by adding another goal and assist in the Atlantic’s 7-5 victory over the Central.
