Bad Break? Kreider To Miss At Least 5 Games
UPDATE 3/26/14: Chris Kreider to miss at least 5 games due to hand injury! Chris Kreider will miss tonight’s contest against the Philadelphia Flyers and will not accompany the team on it’s upcoming road trip. The initial word per the NY Rangers on Tuesday was he would miss the Flyers game.
#NYR Update: @ChrisKreider will not play tomorrow night against the Flyers..there is no further information at this time

Now we know just how much time he will be out for: 5 games, minimum. The injury occurred in Columbus, meaning he played 2 games with it. Pain was minimal as per the head coach today but Vigneault didn’t rule out surgery either. I am sure we will learn more in the coming days.
Previous Report 3/25/14
Twitter went abuzz when TSN’s Bob McKenzie said Chris Kreider would miss a month with a hand injury. It is possible that the Rangers organization told him to pull that info in order for a proper evaluation or second opinion to take place.
This certainly means JT Miller will be reinserted into the lineup and may get a significant look. The mystery still remains as to what happened to Chris Kreider. Seth Rothman of INSIDE HOCKEY tweeted this out:
Just took another look at the video. Kreider’s blocked shot with 7 seconds left in 2nd was blocked off his foot. (1/2)

MSG cameras caught Kreider taking his glove off and appearing to flex his hand walking into locker room after 2nd period, though. (2/2)

Kreider played three shifts during third period, though. Nothing out of the ordinary on his final shift that I could see.

These tweets tell a story that obviously something happened and Kreider tried to gut it out. Could it be a fracture? That would be consistent with the initial report of one month. Considering that Marty St. Louis and Derek Stepan played with the flu should indicate the serious nature of this injury for Kreider to be scratched.
Replacing Kreider will not be easy and this injury couldn’t happen at a worse time for the Rangers. Hopefully, this will not go into the playoffs. The regular season concludes 9 games from now on April 12th.
