While he has taken some heat for his contract demands, this is a former first round draft pick who with still tons of potential at the age of 26. Brassard is entering his prime years, and now 5 of them will be in Broadway Blue.
He may have struggled earlier on last year, but still managed to elevate his play in the post season. The Rangers new #2 center has started in 35 career NHL playoff games, all with New York. In those games, mostly as a 3rd line center, he’s tallied 8 goals and 16 assists for 24 points.
If the projected salary cap does reach 75 million next year and 80 million a season after, this deal will be just fine. As it stands, there is over a million to sign RFA defenseman John Moore to a 1 or 2 year deal.
