Breadman Rising: Projecting a career year for Artemiy Panarin

Artemiy Panarin chose the Rangers on July 1st. Now the Breadman is set to rise on Broadway in what should be his finest season in the NHL to date. When this season is all said and done, Panarin will lead the Rangers in scoring and putting smiles on fans’ faces.

On The Rise

Let’s not dilly-dally here and hop right into what I am projecting for the Rangers new superstar.

  • GAMES PLAYED: 82
  • GOALS: 32
  • ASSISTS: 62
  • POINTS: 94

Breaking down the reasons for the stats

This is based on looking at Panarin’s stats over his career (via hockey-Reference) and taking into account his roles and responsibilities here in NY. The assumptions made is that he will be on a better PP with Jacob Trouba who is an upgrade over the defense in Columbus. Mika Zibanejad should also continue his improved play and have a career year himself along with Panarin. In the preseason, Panarin manned the point and it looks like he will be the triggerman from the left circle on the man advantage.

Last year, if Panarin had played a full 82 game schedule he would have hit the 90 point mark. Should he do that in his first season with the Rangers I foresee a 94 point campaign. This will be largely due to a return in increased shots and maintaining around a 14% shooting percentage. The reason for the increase in shots is because of the PP.

I also believe the Rangers will rely heavily on Panarin and he will also set a career high for minutes played. I added in a small uptick in his assists per game to come out with my projections.
