Breaking: Tony DeAngelo Out With Sprained Ankle

The Rangers have announced that defenseman Tony DeAngelo will be out for the next 3-4 weeks with a sprained ankle.

DeAngelo suffered the injury during the second period of Monday night’s 6-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. The defenseman went awkwardly into the boards to the right of Alexandar Georgiev and was barely able to put any weight on his affected leg. This timeline likely means DeAngelo is out for the season, which could be a real blow towards his development. His game was improving with his increased ice time after being summoned into action when Kevin Shattenkirk went out with his injury. DeAngelo, who was acquired this summer in the deal for Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta, will be in the conversation for a permanent roster spot come training camp in September. He was a valued acquisition for his puck-moving and skating skills, as well as his ability to run a power-play. Hopefully, he will be raring and ready to go come September.
