Brooks: Rangers have not talked contract recently with either Hayes or Zuccarello
Larry Brook took to Twitter to drop this update.
The trade deadline is just 13 days away and if you start seeing healthy scratches you know a trade could be imminent. Bottom line here is simple, the Rangers are trading both Kevin Hayes and Mats Zuccarello.
Earlier in the day Brooks discussed Zuccarello in detail and noted that the Rangers may be considering a trade and sign in the offseason.
The winger’s revival has prompted the Rangers to consider the scenario under which they would trade Zuccarello and then re-sign him as a free agent on July 1. “I’m not aware of that,” Zuccarello said. “If that’s the situation that develops, I would look at it, but that’s far off. I can say that no one has come to me and said that’s the plan.”
NY POST
While I think that it is a possibility it seems unlikely. If the Rangers and Zuccarello haven’t been discussing contract how do they know what his asks are or if they’ve changed? What if he wants at least 5 years and over $6M on his next deal?Does that fit in the longterm plans? There are just too many questions when it comes to the 31 year old Zuccarello.
