The Cally Watch Continues! The speculation is now at a fever pitch and NY Rangers fans are on the edge of their seats for an end to this ordeal.

Update: 3/3/14 10:00 AM

The Rangers had a deal on the table with Tampa Bay this weekend that obviously fell through. It does’t mean that a possibility of a trade with the Lightning is dead, but obviously Steve Yzerman isn’t going to be pressured into a deal to move St. Louis.

This morning news is coming from ESPN’s Pierre Lebrun that Callahan’s camp has come down about 500,000 on their demands. We also learned that Sather and the Rangers have offered 6 years at 6 million per season. It’s basically a final offer that needs to be signed before the March 5th trade deadline. This ordeal is coming close to a climax. Sit tight.

What does this mean? About as much as states. Nothing is changed because touching base isn’t negotiating. However, it at least signifies that there could still be a chance to come to terms. Also, Pat Leonard indicated Dan Girardi met with the Rangers several times. A deal there is close.Update: 2/27/14 10:30 AM As per Sean Hartnett Ryan Callahan is at the optional practice.

What does this mean? Not much if you ask me. I do believe that another big indicator will come around 6:30 PM as the Rangers go out for a pre-game skate. This morning on NHLN, Kevin Weekes reiterated that both sides are too far and a deal is coming.Posted at 2/27/14 7:30 AM Last night, on Fulltilt Rangers Radio Sean Hartnett of WFAN stated that a Callahan trade to Tampa Bay for Martin St. Louis, was the most likely deal to happen. When asked if he thought the deal would happen before NY faces Chicago, he said that we will know by practice. Yesterday on this site we broke that Glen Sather was willing to sweeten the pot in order to acquire a top 6 forward. If adding a prospect to obtain St. Louis is the only way it happens, so be it. Still better than losing Callahan on July 1st for nothing. Sean Hartnett will be there today and you can follow him on twitter @HartnettHockey to get up to the minute updates. Stay here as we follow this situation until a deal (trade or re-sign) happens. As for Martin St. Louis, he is a great player, but he is 38 years old. He has 1 year left on his contract and wants another. So in a year’s time he will ask for a 3-4 year deal at about 6 million dollars. Is he going to be worth that at 42? Teemu Selanne scored 31 goals and 80 points at the age of 40, since then he’s been on a steep decline. With no compliance buyout to bail the Rangers, fans will lament the deal unless a Stanley Cup is won this year or next. Stay tuned as this all shakes out.
