Cam Talbot deal likely to take place during NHL draft
All signs are pointing to Glen Sather and the Rangers dangling Cam Talbot over the heads of goalie desperate teams until tomorrow’s draft begins. The reports that have come out so far indicate as much.
We’ve known the Rangers feel Talbot is worth his weight in gold and the interest from multiple teams proves that. We learned during the week that Sather turned down 2 second round picks and Larry Brooks today notes offers on the table that include a high 2nd rounder and a prospect.
[su_quote cite=”Larry Brooks” url=”https://nypost.com/2015/06/25/rangers-pushing-for-first-round-pick-from-cam-talbot-suitors/”]The Sabres, Oilers, Sharks, Stars and Flames are in the mix for Talbot, for whom the Blueshirts have received offers of, according to one informant, “multiple second-rounders and a high second-rounder plus a pretty good prospect.”[/su_quote]
Reports last week stated the Oilers would consider moving the #16 pick overall but have been recently downgraded to unlikely. However, in what would be the reassurance and pressure for the Oilers to finally give up that pick, teams can speak to Talbot’s agent.
[su_quote cite=”Larry Brooks” url=”https://nypost.com/2015/06/25/rangers-pushing-for-first-round-pick-from-cam-talbot-suitors/”]Sources report general manager Glen Sather has granted interested parties permission to speak with Talbot’s agent, George Bazos, to gauge the netminder’s interest in their respective cities. Talbot is one year away from free agency, operating under a $1.45 million contract that cannot be extended until January under CBA regulations.[/su_quote]
I can see it now, just after the 15th pick of the draft. There is a scramble on the draft floor and Peter Chiarelli is on the phone holding his head at the Oilers table. Glen Sather can be seen chomping his cigar and smirking in the section where the Rangers are. All of a sudden, Gary Bettman walks up to the podium and says, “We have a trade to announce.”
Enjoy the draft folks.
