Chris Drury on Karl Henriksson and Kravtsov looks to get back on track

The Rangers drafted Karl Henriksson in the same 2019 draft where they chose Kappo Kakko. While there is so much rightful focus on Kakko, this 19 year old, 5’9″ center is developing faster than expected.

Rangers prospect Karl Henriksson

Henriksson is on the small side for centers, but has shown flashes of excellent playmaking ability. It was a hectic summer last year for Henriksson with the Summer Showcase in Plymouth, MI, where he played in 5 games, followed by the Rangers Prospect Development camp. That’s where Henriksson got acquainted with the rest of the talent pool, including fellow Swedes Nils Lundkvist, Adam Edström and others like K’Andre Miller, Matthew Robertson and many more.

The young pivot was then added to the Traverse City tournament so the Rangers could give him an extended look. Henriksson was the first Europe-based player to participate in the Traverse City Tournament without signing an entry-level contract. It’s a sign that the front office has high hopes for Henriksson, who only 3 years ago played 2 sports at different age levels.

Chris Drury on Karl Henriksson

Chris Drury is the Rangers Assistant General Manager and he spoke about Henriksson. “To get him where we did in the draft was very exciting,” he said. Drury also noted that they get reports often from Henriksson’s club in the SHL. “He’s on the right path to be a full-time center,” he explained. That’s great news considering the Rangers are thin at center in their prospect pool.
