The New York Rangers need to get back their most lethal weapon in front of the net for their upcoming clash against the Boston Bruins.

Chris Kreider was injured against the Minnesota Wild last week on a shoulder-to-shoulder hit by Marcus Foligno. As he was leaving the ice, it was obvious his left arm appeared injured.

The team initially announced him as day-to-day with an upper-body injury and Gerard Gallant said, “it’s a short term thing.”

Short term amounted to him missing the next three games where the Rangers went 2-1-0 in his absence.

Chris Kreider ‘real close’ to return

In Columbus, Kreider took part in the optional morning skate. According to Newsday’s Colin Stephenson, he was wearing weights strapped to his legs.

Using weights while running is believed to be able to increase your speed, I would assume that it would translate to skating as well.

Prior to the Rangers 3-1 victory over the Blue Jackets, Gallant was asked about Kreider’s status.

“Real close,” he said.

Kreider, 31, has 19 goals and 30 points this season. His net front presence will be needed on the first line and power play against the league-leading Boston Bruins this Thursday at Madison Square Garden.

The New York Rangers signed Louis Domingue this summer as an insurance policy with a two-year contract and a cap hit of $775,000 per season.

The left-handed goalie played in two preseason games and stopped 29 of 32 shots in 60:32 of total ice time before being sent down to the Hartford Wolf Pack.

On Monday, the AHL announced Domingue as their Player of the Week after posting a 2-0-1 record with a GAA of 1.66 and a .941 save percentage.

Domingue, 30, is 9-6-6 this season with the Pack. He also boasts a solid .914 save percentage and a 2.37 GAA.

For his NHL career, he has a record of 59-60-10 in 142 career appearances with a GAA of 3.04 and SV% of .905.

If Domingue continues to play this way, he could very well be the Rangers backup for next season.
