Dan Girardi paid a visit to the dentist last night, apparently he’s human after all
During the third period of last night’s game one win, a puck struck Dan Girardi near his jaw. Now that is pretty much what we are accustomed to seeing with the Rangers leader in shot blocks. Girardi has blocked 184 shots this season and has made a habit of making us believe he’s made out of some mutant metal.
What was rare about last night was watching him actually leave the ice with about 10 minutes left in the game. That, we aren’t used to seeing. Last night, all we learned from Alain Vigneault was that he was seeing the dentist.
I think the biggest fear most fans had is that he may have broken his jaw. According to almost every single beat writer at the press conference, the consensus was that AV didn’t appear worried.
Pat Leonard of the Daily News noted that Girardi has missed 5 regular season games in his entire career (741 out of 746). That’s straight up Iron Man territory right there. But most fans feel he has this Wolverine quality to him because of his inexplicable ability to heal on the ice.
How many times have we seen Girardi get in front of a cannon and take it off the skate, leg or arm. He simply winces, shakes his limbs and goes right back to playing. Practice starts at noon. You and I both know, he will be out there. It’s just what Girardi does.
As expected…Girardi stepped onto the ice for practice.
And there's Girardi
