David Quinn Receives High Praise From Rangers Legend

In an interview with Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post, Rangers legend Brian Leetch had some high praise for new Rangers head coach David Quinn.

Leetch and Quinn have a long past together. When Leetch was checking out The Kent School, a private school in Connecticut, Quinn was his guide around campus. But that wasn’t the only time the two would cross paths. Both were defensemen on the 1986 United States World Juniors team that won bronze in Ontario.

Now with the Rangers front office, Leetch says he was never asked his opinion when the organization looked to hire Alain Vigneault’s replacement. However, Leetch says he would only have had good things to say about his former teammate.

“I think he’s a great fit,” Leetch said. “I think he’s going to do an excellent job. I think the team is in the right place and he’s in the right position of his career, coaching-wise. I think it’s a good match, I really do.”

When Quinn had to end his playing career due to having compartment syndrome, Leetch said that Quinn never lost his spirit. “He never lost that same personality. Stayed positive. He was just like, ‘Yeah, what can you do?’ ”

Quinn having a high spirit and positive attitude is certainly something the Rangers need heading into their rebuild. Hockey smarts and coaching ability aside, Quinn will be leading a team of young guys who will hit some bumps along the road. Having a coach that will make sure his guys are thinking positively is definitely a good thing.
