Disaster Averted, Girardi Re-Signs With Rangers
Some good news has finally come to NYR fans! Top blue-liner Dan Girardi has re-signed with the Blueshirts for the next 6 years. The totals will be an average annual cap hit of 5.5 millions dollars. The result will be a rock solid top pairing defense with MacDonagh for the next several years. The deal also includes a No Trade Clause for the first 3 years and a modified No Move Clause for the last 3.
6 years, $5.5 per for Girardi staying with Rangers.

Important detail: Girardi’s NMC kicks in right now even though extension doesn’t start until July 1. New feature in CBA if both sides agree.

GIRARDI IS WHERE HE BELONGS
Last night, Dan Girardi’s quotes were a lot different in tone and in words than his buddy and Captain, Ryan Callahan. Girardi said “We’ll be working here in the next few days hopefully and try to bang something out here, but in the meantime I’ll just be all business and go about my job.” In less then one day, it was done.
The difference between the two has been simple, Girardi was realistic in what the market would bear and he took less to stay with the Rangers. Had Dan gone to free agency, he would have easily have gotten 6 to 6.5 million dollars.
Instead he chose to keep he and his family in NY, with a team that gave an undrafted player a chance. A key piece of the Rangers future is now secure and an even better leader is staying at the Garden.
WE CALLED IT!
On Fulltilt Rangers Radio on Wednesday night, I said “Dan Girardi will probably be signing a contract within the next 24-48 hours!”. I followed it up that deal would be 5-6 years at around 5 million per. Hey, I can’t be perfect.
Listen to me call it here! Skip to 22:30!
