“FAN”tasizing Mark Messier as Rangers coach

Every Rangers fan knows Mark Messier, the Captain who took the Rangers all the way in 1994. Many long suffering Ranger fans call him “The Messiah.” It is no secret that the Rangers are struggling, and when every team struggles, the coach is blamed.

There have been rumors floating about that the Rangers might look for a new coach, and let’s think outside the box, why not Mark Messier. In 2013, the Rangers fired Tortorella, and were looking for a replacement, the two finalists were Mark Messier and Alain Vigneault.

The Rangers took two hits to their leadership core when Derek Stepan and Dan Girardi were both moved this offseason. The Rangers need a person to spark and motivate the team. When John Tortorella was coach, he was that person. Yes, ultimately he lost the locker room with his fiery attitude, but he was effective for a while..

If the Rangers are not going to acquire a player who possesses leadership, why not bring back the player who has a leadership award named after him, Mark Messier.

With the goal of promoting the game of hockey and teaching children how to play, Mark Messier is currently constructing a hockey complex in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx.

Mark Messier has been coaching children and has stayed connected to hockey since his retirement, he is a natural-born leader and coach. There are no signs that Mark Messier is rumored to be a candidate for Rangers coach, but it is fun to fantasize.

The Rangers certainly look like they need a change. So will “The Messiah” come back?
