Have the Rangers and Chris Kreider come to an impasse?
With just one week to go before the NHL Trade Deadline it appears we have reached that impasse between Chris Kreider’s camp and the New York Rangers. I’ve said all along that keeping Kreider would be a nice-to-have, but where the team is in terms of competing for a Cup, the return in trade would be impossible to refuse.
Contract Talks
It was Pierre Lebrun that noted Matt Keator, Kreider’s agent and Jeff Gorton were discussing contract terms. That was over a week ago and as you can see, the needle hasn’t moved in the direction he will be extended like some suggest with Lebrun’s latest report. This tweet by Lebrun also comes off the heels of Larry Brooks’.
[Matt Keator]and general manager Jeff Gorton have been conducting a dialogue for about a week. It is, however, not clear whether the parties are making progress toward an agreement on a long-term deal that would keep Kreider in New York. It is not clear whether offers and counteroffers have been exchanged or whether the sides are talking concepts.
Larry Brooks
Kreider most likely will be dealt
The bottom line is that there’s at least 3 serious contender for Kreider at the deadline. We know the Blues, Avalanche and Bruins are going to come hard for him. There was a report a few weeks ago that it was up to 8 teams, one of them was the Capitals and they still could be in it. With Tampa’s acquisition of Blake Coleman, they are probably out of the CK20 sweeps.
