Henrik Lundqvist out due to flu

As reported by the New York Rangers Twitter account. Henrik Lundqvist will not play tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins due to flu.

Earlier today, the Rangers placed goaltender Marek Mazanec on waivers so the team will be able to sign him. For more on that acquisition, click here.

We previously surmised that this move occurred to help Hartford out in the crease as the Wolfpack are tied with the AHL Laval Rockets for the most goals allowed in the AHL at 87. However, this move may have new meaning because Georgiev has no NHL experience, and Mazanec does.

In 17 games played with the Wolfpack, Georgiev has a record of 4-7-4 with a GAA of 3.29 and save percentage of .897.

It will be a battle of the back-ups tonight in Pittsburgh as Penguins starter Matt Murray is week to week with a lower-body injury. Instead, Penguins’ netminder Tristan Jarry will get the nod. For more details on tonight’s game, click here.
