Henrik Takes Hurricanes By Storm In 4-2 Win

The Rangers went into the capital city of North Carolina in hopes of winning their second game in as many days. And thanks to the team’s 37-year-old goaltender, the Blueshirts are headed back to New York with a 4-2 win.

Artemiy Panarin – Another game, another point for the Breadman. With the Hurricanes dominating play in the first period, the Rangers capitalized on one of their handful of chances in the opening 20 minutes. Jesper Fast and Ryan Strome worked a quick cycle behind the net, and Strome hit Panarin in front for the 1-0 lead.

The goal was the eighth of the season for Panarin, who also added an assist on Adam Fox’s empty netter to seal the victory. Panarin’s two-point game gives him 16 points over his first 14 games with the Blueshirts.

Brendan Lemieux – It’s been a rough start for the young winger, who is playing on a one-year contract and is hoping to earn another one from Rangers management. Lemieux finally got his first goal of the season, breaking the 1-1 deadlock with a powerplay goal late in the second period.

Lemieux is always noticeable when he’s on the ice. He goes hard into the corners, uses his speed to get to loose pucks, and, like his father, isn’t afraid to get physical. Hopefully, this goal gets Lemieux’s offensive game going, and he can contribute on the score sheet as well.

Pavel Buchnevich – It ended up being the game-winner, and what a way it was to score the deciding goal. Buchnevich stole the puck from the Carolina defender, drove to the net, and was able to get just enough on the shot to beat Mrazek for the 3-1 lead.

Buchnevich had one is his best games of the season tonight. The Russian had an assist, three takeaways and two hits to go along with the GWG.

Adam Fox – It was another strong game for the Jericho, NY native, who is showing why he was so coveted when the Rangers acquired him from the Hurricanes. Fox had the ENG to seal the victory for the Blueshirts, but he was also active in his end, making three blocks and two takeaways in 20:39 of ice time. Fox appears to be the real deal and should be a staple on the Rangers’ blue line for years to come.

Henrik Lundqvist – I’m not even sure there are words to describe how well King Henrik played in this one. Lundqvist made 45 saves against the Hurricanes, including a few marvelous stops that kept the Rangers in the game or preserved their lead. It was a ”turn back the clock” game for the sure-fire future Hall of Famer, as he backstopped the Blueshirts to their fourth win over the last five games.

Next Game: The Rangers return to MSG on Sunday afternoon for a midday matchup with the Florida Panthers. Puck drops at 1!
