Is a major overhaul coming for the New York Rangers?

Yandle (Bruce Bennet / Getty) The rumor mill is starting to churn and the New York Rangers are starting to come up in almost every dark corner of the internet. With the team showing signs of improvement but still unable to get over the hump, Jeff Gorton could be working some serious overtime.

As he eluded to when he traded Emerson Etem to Vancouver, “you have 100 conversations to every deal”, that is exactly what he is doing. We are all aware of the impending situation with Keith Yandle, as it seems likely that he and his agent have informed the Rangers they will test the market this summer. This has led to Yandle rumors being front and center and the chances of a deal involving #93 could come within the next two weeks.

Here’s what is starting to emerge from all the rumor chatter. Two teams that are coming up a lot lately are Boston and St. Louis. Jeff Gorton has some players he would like to move and some that he may move should the Rangers fall out of the playoff picture around the deadline.

Bottom line, unless your name is Mats Zuccarello, Derick Brassard, Ryan McDonagh, Henrik Lundqvist, Derek Stepan, or J.T. Miller, you could be moved. While some players enjoy protections of No Move/Trade Clauses, they may waive them to go to a contender if the Rangers are on the outside looking in.

Even if the Rangers are sitting on the inside, some players may be asked to waive their clauses to join a team sitting at or near the top of the standings in another division. One of those players could be Rick Nash, who’s name has been mentioned already at various times this season, including this past summer.

So at this time, take this post at face value. Rumors are just that…rumors. And while some of the people I’ve spoken to can’t hold a candle to the McKenzie’s and Dreger’s of the world, they still have some decent info from time to time.

Who know’s exactly what the Rangers do from now until the deadline. But as of right now, it looks like it is setting up to be one of the bigger trade deadlines since 1994 for the Blueshirts.
