Jacob Trouba fined $5000 for high-sticking incident
The NHL Department of Player Safety has fined New York Rangers‘ captain Jacob Trouba $5000 for a high-sticking incident against Boston Bruins’ forward Trent Frederic.
I know what some of you are saying: “When did this happen?”
At the 17:40 mark of the second period, Trouba was seen pushing Frederic away from a scrum near Jonathan Quick’s crease. During the encounter, video shows Frederic holding Trouba’s stick, followed by the Rangers captain pulling away by swinging it and making contact off the top of Frederic’s helmet.
Despite the play happening right in front of the referee, no penalty was called and nothing came of it on the ice.

Jacob Trouba fined
Trouba, 29, has posted 1 goal and 7 assists in 19 games this season with a +9 rating. In yesterday’s game against Boston, he picked up an assist on Chris Kreider’s shorthanded tally and finished the day with a +4 rating.
“It starts with Jacob Trouba, who has been an absolute warrior for our team,” coach Peter Laviolette praised. “That’s the captain of your team setting the tone last night (against the Flyers), and backing it up with another great performance.”
This is Trouba’s second full season as the team’s captain. The Rangers gave him the honor of being the franchise’s 28th captain on August 9, 2022.
“It is a privilege and an honor to be named the next captain of the New York Rangers,” Trouba penned in a letter to Rangers fans. “After I was told, one of the first things I did was look up the 27 captains before me. Messier, Leetch, Jagr, and Drury were players I grew up watching as a kid, and I dreamed of being in their skates one day.”
