Jimmy Vesey has flipped the switch this season for the Rangers

Jimmy Vesey is looking like he is worth every penny of his newly signed 2 year / $2.275 million AAV contract. Just over quarter mark of the season, it can be said that the Rangers made the right decision thus far in keeping him.

From the beginning of the season, you can just see a fire lit under him. There have been multiple occurrences in which Vesey has found a way past defenders at the blue-line and tried to sneak one in.

He is currently on pace for 41 points, which beats his previous season best by 13. Of those 41, 24 of them are gonna come from him putting the biscuit in the basket, which would again obliterate any previous years. But the big question is why now?

How is Jimmy Vesey showing his true potential, now?

Chemistry

This season, Vesey has been matched up with a number of different players like breakout Brett Howden and Kevin Hayes in the middle, Pavel Buchnevich and Jesper Fast on the other wing. Despite having multiple different line-mates, Vesey has found a way to build chemistry with whoever is around him.

According to Leftwinglock.com, Vesey is at his best when he around Howden in the middle and Fast on his right. The trio have netted four goals and allowed three and are shooting at 13.8%.

It now seems like Strome will be to his right for the time being. In Saturday’s game against Washington, the first real time the three have been on the ice together resulted in a goal by Strome. Although Vesey wasn’t credited an assist, it was still a plus for him.

Shooting the Puck

He is getting the puck on the net, in bunches. In only two of the 24 games that Vesey has suited up, he didn’t register a shot on goal. Fairly staggering considering the Rangers have the 10th least amount of shots in the NHL. Out of 10 Rangers with at least 30 shots on net this season, Vesey has the second highest shooting percentage behind Chris Kreider.

Vesey has seen an increase in minutes this season (16:45 average time on ice), and that can be seen as a confidence booster.

Consistency and Creativity

One of the things that has made Jimmy Vesey look so good this season is his consistency. The 25-year-old is finding creative ways to find the back of the net and it is really a confidence booster for this team.

It is fair to argue the importance of Jimmy Vesey has been crucial to the New York Rangers. His performance in the first 24 games of the season can be considered a positive one. For now, it seems it was a great decision to keep Vesey in New York until at least next season.

Do you think Jimmy Vesey will keep up his electric start to the season?
