Jonathan Quick back for Rangers against Columbus, Igor Shesterkin improving
The New York Rangers will get one of their regular goalies back on Sunday against the Columbus Blue Jackets as Jonathan Quick returns from a one-game hiatus.
After defeating the Detroit Red Wings 5-3 last Tuesday, Quick was ruled day-to-day with an upper-body injury. With Igor Shesterkin nursing an injury of his own, it allowed third-string goalie Louis Domingue the opportunity to make his Rangers’ debut in a 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.

Jonathan Quick back for Rangers
Quick, 37, is experiencing a remarkable resurgence this season after going 16-15-6 in 2022-23, with a GAA of 3.41 and a subpar .882 save percentage.
To date, the veteran backstop is sporting a record of 3-0-1 with a 1.77 GAA and a .935 save percentage. Quick’s GAA ranks 3rd in the NHL for goalies with a minimum of 4 games played, while his save percentage ranks 4th.
Louis Domingue, who is coming off an excellent 25 save effort over the Wild, will backup Quick tonight.
“I just tried to get by the first five minutes is one of my keys,” Domingue said after the win. “From my experience, when you haven’t played in the NHL for a while, you need to get going. You need to adapt to the pace of play, the traffic. How heavy the guys are in front of the net. It was a matter of me getting by the first little bit and build on it.”
Meanwhile, Shesterkin skated again today as he slowly works his way back from an injury that occurred on November 2nd, in a 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
This season, Shesterkin has posted a 6-2-0 record with a GAA of 2.36 and a .913 save percentage.
“Everything is still good with him,” Laviolette said Saturday. “We’re managing him and the schedule, and where we are at right now.”
New York will have a week off after tonight’s contest. Their next game will be on Saturday in a highly anticipated matchup versus the New Jersey Devils on the road.
