The NHL trade deadline is 27 days away and counting. Today we finally got some definitive word as to what is going on with Mats Zuccarello. Larry Brooks of the NY Post spoke with Zucc’s agent and sent out this tweet.

What could possibly change is Zuccarello’s opinion of what he is worth or sacrificing millions in order for a longer term contract. Zucc and his agent know that the Rangers are going to be in a cap crunch come July and remaining unsigned could mean a one way ticket out of NY on March 2nd.

Today, Alain Vigneault revealed his thoughts on Mats and his current situation. As per Rick Carpiniello:

[su_quote cite=”Rangers Report” url=”https://rangers.lohudblogs.com/2015/02/03/poor-starts-are-haunting-the-rangers/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter#sthash.gPAUIpak.dpbs”]“I would prefer he stayed a New York Ranger,” Vigneault said. “I made that very clear to management. “But at the end of the day, this is a business and if he wants to stay and we want him there’s got to be common ground. So that’s where that’s at right now.”[/su_quote]

VG Sport in Norway also picked up on this story and believes that after accepting two 1 year deals from the Rangers, that years are more important. In addition, they also note that Mats Zuccarello remaining with the Rangers is what’s best for Norway.

Funny that a paper would say that, but you have to wonder if Mats Zuccarello is feeling the pressure of an entire country to stay in NY? Hey, this could be a happy ending after all.
