Grabner grabs the headlines and secures spot in lineup

Credit: AP / Kathy KmonicekHeading into last night’s pounding against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Michael Grabner hadn’t scored a goal in 5 games. That goal-less streak would end.

Grabbing the Bull by the Horns

In the second period Grabner was able to slap a beauty passed Ben Bishop, with a beautiful setup from Brady Skjei.

Although Grabner was goal-less he was still able to continue to his line in big fashion, making plays and setting up his teammates with great opportunities. This morning Grabner said in an interview with Amanda Borges (nyrangers.com) “With my speed, I try to make space for my teammates, and that always makes a play”

When I said Grabner ended his goal-less streak in big fashion, I meant it. After collecting the first goal of the game, Grabner was able to collect two more after that. That gave Grabner a hat-trick, his first with the Rangers, and his first since February 11th, 2013.

Grabner has contributed good hockey IQ and speed to his line, he makes smart plays, is quick to the puck, and is always a step ahead of the play.

GM Jeff Gorton was really smart with the signing of Grabner this off-season. Once a 30 goal scorer, Grabner recorded 8 goals in 80 games with the Maple Leafs last season, and now has five in nine games. Gorton signed him because he knew that even though he struggled last season, he can still improve and get better due to the good hockey knowledge he has.

Now that it looks like Chris Kreider is soon to return to the lineup, Grabner performance cemented his place in the lineup.
