Mika Zibanejad injured during Rangers camp scrimmage
The New York Rangers will be holding their breath regarding number one center, Mika Zibanejad.
On Sunday, the injury occured during the first period of the team’s scrimmage with reports stating he left the ice in pain. Afterwards, official word came out that Zibanejad is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
“It can happen anywhere,” a dejected Laviolette said. “It’s a fast game. [The scrimmage] was physical and there was some contact.”

Zibanejad, 30, really put the league on notice during the COVID shortened season of 2018-19 by scoring a stunning 41 goals and 75 points in just 57 games. Ever since, Mika’s 1.08 points per game average ranks 9th among all NHL centers.
The team’s best two-way player was named Team MVP after registering a career-high 91 points in 82 games last season.
Mika is also entering the second year of an 8-year deal signed with the Rangers back on October 10, 2021. Per CapFriendly, the AAV is for $8.5 million with a full no-move clause. However, in the final year of the contract (2029-30), it becomes a modified no-trade 7 days prior to the trade deadline with a 21 team no-trade list.
