New York Rangers Flashback: Watch Mike Richter and Cam Neely team up to promote Thanksgiving Showdown
If you are missing hockey as much as I am today, let me take you on a quick stroll down memory lane. Back in 2013, the NHL along with the Discover Card brought hockey fans The Thanksgiving Showdown.
Thanksgiving Showdown: New York Rangers vs Boston Bruins
The game pitted the New York Rangers against the Boston Bruins on November 29th at TD Garden in Boston. It was a 3-2 loss for the Blueshirts that saw them blow a one goal lead in the third period.
While it was a good hockey game, the commercial to promote it is a classic. The NHL brought in a legend from both teams with Mike Richter for the Rangers and Cam Neely for the Bruins.
It depicts two family factions in NY and Boston getting together for Thanksgiving and is a must watch.
Side note: The Rangers goal scorers were Rick Nash and Ryan McDonagh. Although the loss brought the team to a 13-13 record at the time something special was on the horizon. That season, the Rangers went to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in 20 years.
