Report: New York Rangers recall forward Julien Gauthier
The New York Rangers have recalled forward Julien Gauthier from the Hartford Wolf Pack on Wednesday.
Gauthier, 25, scored 3 goals and 7 points in 49 games with the Blueshirts in 2021-22. He was acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes back on February 18, 2020 for defenseman Joey Keane. At that time, the former first-round pick had played only 5 NHL games with one assist.
This season, he has 2 goals in 4 games with the Wolf Pack to earn himself the call up.
The Rangers are currently without Filip Chytil for at least a week after he suffered an upper-body injury against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.
New York Rangers call up Julien Gauthier
The Rangers signed Gauthier to a 1-year, one-way deal worth $800,000 per CapFriendly this summer. The deal came amid rumors that Gauthier had requested a trade from the Rangers per The Athletic.
The Rangers will play the Islanders tonight at UBS Arena and Gauthier could be thrust into the action.
During last night’s contest against the Avalanche, Vitali Kravtsov and Mika Zibanejad were banged up. Kravtsov appeared to suffer an arm issue and Zibanejad was tripped hard at the end of regulation. Both players finished the game with no visible concerns.
Head coach Gerard Gallant will address the media at 5:30 PM and reveal who is in for tonight.
Gauthier was selected in the first round of the 2016 Draft (21 overall) by the Carolina Hurricanes. He has played in 96 games, registering 5 goals and 13 assists for 19 points.
