NYR Prospect, Tim Gettinger should be Hartford bound
From both an age and development standpoint, Tim Gettinger should be on his way to Hartford next season. He has recently signed an entry level contract with the Rangers earlier this month.
Correction: Gettinger signed his ELC last season
Gettinger was the fifth round pick (141) in the 2016 draft, and is now finishing up his fourth season of CHL play. He is currently the captain of Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL. The left-handed left winger, stands at a towering 6’6 and weighs in at 216 pounds, according to Eliteprospects.com.
He has net 33 goals so far this season and helped out on 36 more, in 64 games. He also holds a +35 this season, which is truly remarkable, even at the Junior hockey level.
#NYR prospect Tim Gettinger recorded an assist last night and extended his point streak to eight games (three goals, eight assists). Gettinger is one of three OHL players who have registered 30 or more goals and a plus-30 rating or better this season.

His height will work out very well for him. Gettinger has a big body with a lot of length. A strong suit of his, which in this clip is explicitly seen, is speed. He uses speed to beat the defender around the outside, before cutting in on net and going across the crease for a goal.

Gettinger has the potential to be a valuable asset for the Rangers. His long stick and big frame to bully smaller forwards around will be important to look for. Gettinger has been improving every season, and shows no sign of slowing down.
One potential problem however, is penalties. Gettinger has 44 minutes in the box this season through 64 games, which is the third most for his team. It could be a problem, but a manageable one. As he is introduced to higher levels of hockey, his game sense will improve with experience.
“Gettinger is a goal scorer, with a heavy wrist shot, and an excellent release. He has the instincts to find openings in the defence in order to get off that wrist shot, or a powerful one-timer. He also has decent puck handling ability and uses his body as a shield to protect the puck in the cycle game.” says Ben Kerr of Lastwordonsports.com.
This report came from 2016, the year of his draft selection. With an increase in both points and points and goals this season, I believe this still rings true.
It isn’t confirmed that he will be a part of the Hartford Wolfpack next season, but with him approaching the age of 20 and also finishing his fourth full season of OHL hockey, as well as the signing earlier this month, it is certainly looking that way. This is a good thing to see, as their is another valuable piece in our system that could be useful in the rebuilding years to come.
Going back to the earlier part of this season, Johnluke included him as a second star of the week. You can check out that article here:
