OFFICIAL: Rangers recall Shesterkin from Hartford
Moments ago, the Rangers announced that the team has recalled Igor Shesterkin from the Hartford Wolf Pack.
The move comes on the heels of Henrik Lundqvist being under the weather for Saturday night’s game in Vancouver. If Henrik is going to be out for an extended period of time, it would certainly make sense for Shesterkin to be called up. There is also the possibility that a corresponding move – a trade – could be in the works as well, so we will just have to wait and see what Jeff Gorton has in mind.
Shesterkin has had a fantastic first season in North America, going 15-4-3 for Hartford. The young Russian also has a 1.93 GAA and a .932 SV%, which rank him first and second in each of those two categories, respectively. Shesterkin was selected to represent the Wolf Pack, along with defenseman Joey Keane, at this year’s AHL All-Star festivities, so it’ll be interesting to see how long the Rangers are planning on keeping the 24-year-old Russian with the big club.
