Oscar Lindberg appears on his way to Broadway

The Rangers are under the weather again this season. As per the head coach, Alain Vigneault, “there are a few balls up in the air” with regards to tonight’s lineup. On defense, it’s reported someone on the Rangers blueline is ill, so if it isn’t John Moore or Matt Hunwick, we will see both dressed tonight.

Up front, there is no clear indication as to who is having issues, all we know is that Rick Nash had a maintenance day yesterday. Now, from a very respected hockey publication in Sweden, hockeysverige.se, their Editor-In-Chief Uffe Bodin tweeted this today.

Which roughly translates to NYR call up Oscar Lindberg. He finally gets a chance.

What can we expect from Lindberg if he is here? According to Crawford’s Corner:

“Danny’s (Kristo) an offensive player, and Lindberg’s a little bit of each (offensive and defensive), but if he can get some guys who think along the same lines, and he can maybe play some give-and-go hockey with, it should help his overall game.”

That quote came directly from Wolf Pack coach Ken Gernander, who said that almost a year ago. According to many, his game has grown and he should be able to contribute to an NHL club in a positive way.

Oscar Lindberg is having a solid season in Hartford with 16 goals and 36 points. His cap hit is only 675K (as per SNYRangers) so he fits right in. However, will this have a long term impact on the Rangers come trade deadline?

My initial answer is no. While this might be a great glimpse into next season for the 23 year old, I still believe the Rangers will go after a veteran center with NHL experience. For now, if the reports are true, we can enjoy a look at Oscar Lindberg.
