Panarin contract details show the Rangers did go Nuclear

CapFriendly has just released the details of Artemi Panarin’s contract and it indeed shows the Rangers took the Nuclear Option to land him.

Late Sunday night, in the mayhem of all the rumors from top insiders that Panarin was likely to go to the Panthers or Islanders, I wrote the following:

Just like the Leafs last year, they can front load the contract. Are the Islanders going to come up with $70M up front? I don’t think so. This is also what you call lock out proofing the contract, which it looks like we are steam rolling to one in the summer of 2020. As I mentioned in my last post, the Rangers aren’t out of it. I was also informed that the brass was seen heading into their offices late Sunday to huddle. Maybe they are deciding if this is the option they want to take to land Panarin.

Yesterday, I confirmed that the Rangers felt very confident Panarin would sign the deal, but were thrown for a loop when Columbus made a big offer, including the 8th year late Sunday. That was only something the Jackets could offer having his rights. Also, the Isles were going up to $13M. That’s why they weren’t 100% sure until just about noon on Monday.

Now our reporting on the Panarin situation is complete and it culminated with the prediction/projections I made Monday morning.

I hope you all enjoyed our coverage on Panarin and continue to read this site. Thank you for your readership. The mission continues to be the best NY Rangers site around.
