Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad inching closer to Rangers 100 point club

Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad came so close to scoring 100 points last season for the New York Rangers.

Panarin led the team in scoring for a fourth consecutive season with 92 points (29 goals, 63 assists) and Zibanejad came in second with 91 points (39 goals and 52 assists). Both players were healthy and played the full 82 game regular season slate.

As these two superstars inch closer to that elusive 100 point bench mark they would join a very exclusive list of Rangers players to have accomplished the feat.

Panarin, 31, has been a Blueshirts scoring machine that began with an impressive debut in 2019-2020 when he recorded a career-high 32 goals in just 69 games totaling 95 points. Unfortunately, that season was cut short due the pandemic as he was on a pace to score 112 points. Panarin established a career highs for assists (74) and points (96) in 75 games in 2021-22.

Zibanejad, 30, opened eyes around the league with a stunning 41 goals during the COVID shortened season of 2018-19. He finished with 75 points in just 57 games. Including that campaign, Mika’s 1.08 points per game average ranks 9th among all NHL centers.

Should either or both of them score 100 points this upcoming season, they’ll be the first to do so in a Rangers jersey since Jaromir Jagr. In 2005-2006, Jagr shattered the century mark with a franchise high 123 points.

All in all, only 6 players in franchise history have ever been able to hit 100 points. Oddly enough, two players were able to do so in the same season twice.

Will Panarin and Zibanejad be the third pair to make their mark on the franchise records books? I believe they have a great chance to do it.
