Patrick Kane gets on scoreboard with Rangers, looking ready to roll
Patrick Kane registered not only his first point in the New York Rangers win over the Montreal Canadiens, he also recorded his first goal after going scoreless in his first two games with his new club.
Kane’s power play goal tied the contest in the second period soon after his turnover led to a shorthanded tally just a minute prior. It was a big moment of redemption for him and the club as they eventually won in a shootout to end a two-game losing streak.
“It’s nice to get a win,” Kane said wearing the Broadway Hat.

What a difference a couple of practices make.
The Blueshirts acquired Kane from the Blackhawks on February 28 and he watched his new team beat the Philadelphia Flyers later that night in OT from home in Chicago. He arrived just in time to make his debut the next night against the Ottawa Senators, but looked out of sorts.
In the following contest, things didn’t get any better as the team fell apart in the third period falling to the Bruins in Boston. They then had two days off to recover, followed by two days of practice and it paid off for Kane.
“The first two games with not much practice time, having some time off away from the rink, it probably could have gone a little bit better,” Kane said. “But it’s nice to get a few practices in and obviously it was a long, long four, five days just waiting for this one to try and get going here and get back on the score sheet. So nice to get one.”

When Kane scored against the Habs, the look of relief from his teammates was only rivaled by his huge fist pump after hitting the twine. For a guy with a total of 447 career goals, you know that meant something to him.
“It was pretty nice move for the coaching staff to leave us on there and give us a chance to get it back,” Kane said. “Nice to score there after a [shorthanded goal].”
The most important takeaway from Kane’s performance was how much more comfortable he looked on the ice with his new team. There were a lot less high risk passes and more sharper plays with the puck.
New York has 18 games left to work out the bugs as they prepare for a long playoff run. Hopefully, they’ll do so with Kane running at full steam.
Kane, 34, has 17 goals and 47 points in 57 games this season.
