Some Pavel Buchnevich News Rangers Didn’t Want To Hear
At the trade deadline the New York Rangers and their fan base were in agreement that one player that must be on the untouchable list was Russian winger Pavel Buchnevich. Well after the rumors coming out of the KHL yesterday, maybe they should have traded him after all.
Aivis Kanins, a hockey writer for One Puck Short covering the KHL, has sent a tweet that will send shivers down the backs of all Rangers Fans:
Hearing Pavel Buchnevich has received an offer to extend his contract with SKA St.Petersburgh

With the likely termination of Ilya Kovalchuck’s contract, and his return the NHL next season, it appears SKA has seen enough in Buchnevich to want to extend him right now to ensure he remains with them next season, and possibly beyond.
The reason the Rangers were able to grab such a talent like him in the third round was this exact reason. Teams feared he would never come to the NHL, or would take way to long. It appears those fears are playing out correctly.

Rangers brass including GM Jeff Gorton and President Glen Sather need to get on the phone with Buchnevich’s agent today and let him know he will make this team next year. Reports are Buchnevich does not want to play in the AHL. He has stated he would rather play in the KHL professional league then deal with the bus trips and grind of the AHL season.
Make it happen Mr. Gorton or it will be many seasons before Rangers fans will see this type of talent in the NHL:
