Practice Report: Shattenkirk Out For Remainder of Season, Rangers Send Georgiev To Hartford

The Rangers have announced that Kevin Shattenkirk will not come back this season. In addition, goaltender Alexandar Georgiev has been sent back to Hartford.

Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk did not practice today and will not return to the lineup this season.

Shutting down Shattenkirk is definitely the smart move with the final few games of the season being, for all intents and purposes, meaningless. This will allow him to not only make sure he has a full recovery but that he can strengthen his knee coming into training camp next season.

As for Georgiev, the move is not due to the way he has been playing, but rather because Henrik Lundqvist and Ondrej Pavelec are both healthy enough to be in the lineup. The Wolf Pack have eight games left in their season and barring any other injuries, Georgiev should start all of Hartford’s remaining contests.

Jeff Gorton said the risk wasn’t worth it regarding Shattenkirk trying to play.

On Georgiev, Gorton said he’s worked himself into the conversation to be the NHL backup next season.
