Ranger Fans Answer The Call!
I am proud to be a Ranger fan today. Not just because of what the boys did on the ice, but what fans did in the stands.
For the first time this entire post season, the “Garden Faithful” loosened their ties and let their vocal chords get a workout.
We all knew it was going to be a big game. The subplot with Marty St. Louis’ personal tragedy certainly added to it. However, it still required Ranger fans to “show up”. By that I don’t mean buy a ticket, I mean let their voices soar.
From the opening cheers and the chants of “Mar-ty, Mar-ty, Mar-ty” raining down onto the ice, the building was electric. I wonder if those caught up in the Garden buzz felt strange taking Devils’ goalie Martin Brodeur’s mock cheer and turning it into something so positive? If it felt awkward, it didn’t last long as St. Louis himself cashed in on the Rangers 1st goal of the game early.
The crowd certainly deserved an assist as they were the 4th star of the game. NY fed off the energy of the “Let’s Go Rangers” chants all night. It was a wonderful atmosphere, one I hope to see a few more times this season.
