Rangers And Hayes Agree To Contract

Moments ago, the Rangers have signed Kevin Hayes to a one-year contract worth just a tad over $5 million.

As I wrote on the site this morning, Hayes will have six months or so to prove himself to the Rangers if he wants to stay on Broadway past the February trading deadline. However, this contract does indicate that Hayes was looking for a multi-year contract with a $6M or more AAV, something which Jeff Gorton was under no pressure to commit to the 26-year-old forward. And as I mentioned in my earlier post, this one-year deal should start the countdown clock on Hayes’ time in the Rangers sweater.
5.125M for Hayes on one year deal. Surprisingly high number. Pending Spooner, NYR have about $10M in space on 2+7+11. That’s with Smith in NY and Beleskey in AHL.
