Rangers Up The Ante For Anton Stralman
As per Larry Brooks’ latest edition of SLAPSHOTS, the Rangers have offered UFA, Anton Stralman approximately 4 million a year for 4 years.
Earlier in the season, Anton Stralman turned down 9 million over 3 years. It was believed at the time, Sather had written off retaining the 27 year old defenseman. Well, a real solid playoff run can change many hearts and minds.
While his regular season was ok, his playoffs opened many eyes. Stralman raised his level of play by delivering great hip checks and solid play throughout. He finished with 5 assists in 25 post season games and one memorable goal-line save.
Anton Stralman last three years is at 4.47% Relative Corsi%. D comparables: Ehrhoff, Subban, Karlsson, Vlasic. is that good?

However, Rangers’ brass weren’t the only ones watching. The Philadelphia Flyers, starved for world class defense are hoping to take him away from their rivals. The Detroit Red Wings are also eyeing Stralman for their blue-line. Then there is always the Edmonton Oilers, who would love to add someone with an iota of defensive sense to their back 6.

Anton Stralman is looking at a big payday. His agent will be advising him to go for broke on the market come July 1st. Sather’s offer is certainly an upgrade in money and years, but Stralman is looking at more from elsewhere.
If Stralman hits the UFA frenzy this summer, he will get offers well over 4 million and up to 5 or 6 years. He is only 27 years of age and has reached the start of his prime.
The only way Anton Stralman will stay a Ranger is if Sather goes higher or matches another team’s best offer. As for hoping he will take less to stay, “security” for him and his family is all that’s on his mind – and that of his agent.
